Helen McCloy, seudónimo de Helen Clarkson, fue una escritora estadounidense. Nació en Nueva York el 6 de junio de 1904 y falleció en Woodstock, el 1 de diciembre de 1994.
Estudió en su país y en Francia. Trabajó en revistas, periódicos, editoriales incluso fundó una agencia literaria.
Desde pequeña había sido lectora de novelas de misterio, como las de Sherlock Holmes, así que empezó a escribir este tipo de libros, que se publicarían a partir de 1938, con bastantes influencias de la psicología e incluso fenómenos aparentemente sobrenaturales.
