John Bude es el seudónimo que el escritor británico Ernest Carpenter Elmore utilizó para firmar sus novelas de misterio. Nació en Maidstone, el 4 de noviembre de 1901 y falleció en Hastings, el 8 de noviembre de 1957.
Trabajó en una escuela, donde colaboró en las representaciones dramáticas. Ese interés por el teatro le llevó a unirse a una compañía con la que viajaría por todo el país, y fue así como comenzó a escribir, para posteriormente, asentarse con su familia en Sussex y dedicarse a la literatura a tiempo completo.
Destacan sus descripciones de los espacios naturales, de los lugares en los que se desarrollan sus novelas y su prosa fluida.
