Elizabeth Peters era el seudónimo que la escritora estadounidense, Barbara Mertz, utilizaba para firmar sus obras de misterio, también usaba el nombre de Barbara Michaels para sus novelas góticas, y el suyo propio para los estudios académicos.
Nació el 29 de septiembre de 1927, en Illinois y falleció en Maryland, el 8 de agosto de 2013.
Se graduó en la universidad de Chicago y se doctoró en Estudios Orientales, lo que le llevó a escribir sobre Egipto.
